The story

Three mates, 150 years between them

They were an unlikely trio. Pete was the know-it-all maths geek. Jono was the smart-arse kid who surfed. Dan was the fat kid who wanted to be a great boxer. Different corners of the schoolyard — no real reason their paths should have crossed the way they did.

Through high school they were friendly, but not great mates — different circles, different corners of the schoolyard. That changed toward the end of school, when the boys started turning up at Dan's place for beers. There were no parents home to say otherwise, and that was enough. It's where the real friendship started.

It was forged properly in the years after — late teens, early twenties, nights at the Newcastle Workers Club or Fanny's, the kind of years you don't plan but never forget. Somewhere in amongst all that, three blokes who had nothing in common on paper became the kind of mates who show up for each other, no matter what.

Life took them in different directions — different towns, different careers, different chapters. But they never grew apart. Thirty-odd years on, that's worth celebrating properly. 150 years between them, and still going.
